Governor Jennifer Granholm
Throughout Governor Granholm's term, she has repeatedly shown her commitment to organ and tissue donation.
In December of 2004, Gov. Granholm established the Organ and Tissue Donation Education Fund. Citizens can show their support for organ and tissue donation education by donating $1 or more to the fund.
This fall, Gov. Granholm signed four bills creating a heart insignia on the front of the driver's license and state ID card. This bipartisan law solidified her commitment to organ and tissue donation by requiring the question to be asked at the Secretary of State branch offices, "Are you an organ and tissue donor?"
And in October 2005, Representative Hune's medical examiner bill was on the Governor's desk waiting review. When a 5-month-old boy, Kyle Ray Horning, was initially denied the right to become a donor by a medical examiner, Hune swiftly contacted Governor Granholm and she immediately signed the bill to ensure that Kyle's gift of life could be given to three others.
