Lisa Ziff
mother of heart recipient, Shay

When Shay was only 10 weeks old, the Ziffs were told that their daughter would not survive without a heart transplant. Shay received that life-saving heart transplant on May 18, 2004, when she was only five months old. Today, Shay is a thriving toddler-happy, beautiful and most importantly, healthy, thanks to the generosity of her donor's family and the miracle of transplantation.

Lisa Ziff works tirelessly to educate and encourage friends, family and strangers to think about organ donation and to make sure they sign up on Michigan's Organ, Tissue & Eye Donor Registry. Lisa's entire family, including husband Adam, his family and her parents, Dr. Stanley and Lenore Dorfman, have all made organ, tissue and eye donation education and awareness a priority in their lives. Lisa's passion and focus are to be applauded.

"This award means so much to me," said Lisa Ziff. "My family and I are committed to this lifesaving cause. There is a critical need for more registered donors and I've made it my mission to do everything I can to get them. Without the selfless act of another parent donating their child's organs, our daughter, Shay, would not be with us today. The thought of life without our little miracle is what continues to drive my mission."
