Daughter died waiting for a heart, Gift of Life volunteer
Leslie Marie Jameson was a 21 year old woman who died waiting for a heart in April of 2003. She lived with congestive heart failure since childhood, when a viral condition attacked her heart. She had a pacemaker placed at the age of 13. Unfortunately, her gift of life did not arrive in time.
In January, her mother, Julie Morrell, organized a fundraising basketball tournament in West Branch, in memory of Leslie. Morrell decided to organize a basketball fundraising event because Leslie wasn't able to play sports for much of her life due to her heart condition, but she always enjoyed watching her siblings play.
With over $5000 raised and 80 Donor Registries collected at the event, Leslie Marie has helped many recipients receive the gift of life and play or watch sports themselves as a result of this successful event.
