ALIVE '08 at the Detroit Science Center, Detroit

More than 300 guests will attend the Donate Life Coalition of Michigan's ALIVE '08 fundraiser, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the New Detroit Science Center. The Coalition is celebrating five years of ALIVE with great food and science, live music, fun and a plethora of silent auction and raffle items to win.
Presented by the University of Michigan and Roche Pharmaceuticals, this year's event will include a silent and sports auction, a ceremony honoring all heroes of donation and much more. Plans include a special solo performance by donor mom Gloria Schindler of Gladwin, who will sing "The Wind Beneath My Wings." Additionally, the reknowned "Current" Jazz Ensemble from West Bloomfield will take to the stage and entertain guests.

U.S. Transplant Olympic Games, Pittsurgh, PA
July 11-16, 2008
Join "Team Michigan" as transplant recipient athletes compete in Olympic-style events of golf, track & field, swimming, bowling, basketball, tennis, cycling, etc. Donor family members and living organ donors are welcome to join Team Michigan, and to participate in ceremonies honoring our donor heroes. Over 1,500 transplant recipients from across the country will be participating.

Genesee/Saginaw County Grant Volunteer Training
July 19
This specialized volunteer training, for those participating in the Genesee and Saginaw Counties federal grant program, will educate supporters about effective communication techniques and effective wording to encourage others to sign up on the Michigan Organ Donor Registry. Trained volunteers will then staff information tables inside Genesee and Saginaw Counties Secretary of State branch offices on Wednesdays and Fridays in August and September.

LIFE Walk 2008 -- 10k and 5k Runs, 5k and 1 Mile Walk, Detroit
July 26
Join us at the most fun run/walk you've ever been to! Supporters of organ, tissue, eye, blood and bone marrow donation will join together for a festive morning on beautiful Belle Isle Park. The LIFE Walk Cafe will provide complimentary refreshments. DJ Rick Love will entertain and amuse guests. Many health screenings will be provided, and participants will have the opportunity to join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry and the National Marrow Donor Registry onsite. Transplant recipients and donor family members will warm the hearts of everyone present, and Honorary Co-Chairs Diana, Glenda and Donna Lewis (from WXYZ Channel 7) will excite and inspire guests!
Registration begins at 8:30am, the program begins at 9:00am at the Casino Area of Historic Belle Isle Park (East Grand Boulevard at East Jefferson, Detroit).
$15 Early and Online Registration Fee (must be received by July 24, 2008)
$20 Event Day Registration Fee.
Children 12 years and under are free and do not require formal registration.

Detroit Tigers "Donate Life" game, Detroit

Join hundreds of organ, tissue and eye donation supporters at the 7:05pm game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Tigers will host a Donor Registry table at the game, and many donation messages will be shared on the big screen. 2nd Annual West Michigan Walk, Grand Haven
September 20
Join in the fun with transplant support groups from Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor, Traverse City and Gaylord, as well as donor families, organ transplant recipients & families and other donation supporters. Hosted by the Lakeshore Transplant Support Group and sponsored by the Law Office of Rhoades McKee at the Grand River Sail Club clubhouse locatated in downtown Grand Haven, adjacent to the Grand Haven Municipal Marina on the Grand River.
Registration begins at 9:00 AM, festivities start at 9:30 AM. The cost is $10 per person, with the first 75 people who pre-register receiving a free t-shirt. Live Steel Drum music will be entertaining all participants, with coffee, donuts and other goodies available.
Fundraise by walking to the end of the Grand Haven pier ($20/supporter) or walking through the downtown area ($10/supporter). Proceeds go tot he Lakeshore Transplant Support Group, a 501(c)3 organization, which works to support those whose lives are touched by organ and tissue donation, as well as to provide information and education on organ and tissue donation.

16th Annual Betty Buckley Donor Family Ceremony, East Lansing

Gift of Life, in partnership with the Michigan Eye-Bank and the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF), will honor the organ and tissue donors of 2006 and 2007 at this beautiful ceremony. The Ceremony will take place at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing, and will include opportunities to pin up newly created quilt squares, have a family photo taken with the quilts, see your loved one's photo in a slideshow presentation and to receive the U.S. Surgeon General's Certificate of Appreciation. Invitations will be mailed in early summer to families members of those who became donors in 2007, as well as to those families from previous years who asked to be re-invited to the Ceremony. 6th Annual Gift of Life University Challenge, statewide
